How to Apply for a Saudi eVisa: A Step-by-Step Guide

The whole Saudi eVisa application, in order: check your route, fill the form the way the checker reads it, upload a photo that passes, review before you pay, and track the decision live until the visa lands.

At a glance
  • Eligibility follows your passport, not your address - check the route first
  • Name and passport number must match the passport character for character
  • The mandatory medical insurance is issued with the eVisa itself
  • Every traveller, children included, needs their own application and visa

Step 0 - have these beside you before you start

A smooth application starts before the form. Have your passport (valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates), a recent passport-style photo on a plain light background, your travel dates, and an email address you actually check. If you are applying as a Gulf resident, have your residency details ready; if your route is a family or personal visit, your host arranges the approved invitation inside Saudi Arabia first, and your application attaches to it.

Everything else - hotels, flights, insurance - is either optional at this stage or built into the visa itself: the mandatory medical insurance is issued with the eVisa, and no hotel or flight booking is required to apply.

Step 1 - check which route is yours

Eligibility follows your passport, not where you live. Citizens of the 72 eligible countries apply directly. Gulf residents of any nationality apply on their residence permit. Holders of a used US, UK or Schengen visa are assessed for the on-arrival and eVisa route. Everyone else travels on a sponsored visit visa - a different application, started by the host. Our eligibility checker gives you the answer for your passport in about ten seconds, free.

This ten-second check matters because applying on the wrong route is the most common cause of refusal - and an application fee paid on a route you never qualified for is money wasted.

Step 2 - complete the application, exactly as your passport reads

Names, passport number and dates must match the passport character for character - including middle names and the exact order. The systems that read your application compare it against the passport you will travel on; a casual spelling difference is treated as a different person. Enter your travel dates honestly: the visa is issued for the programme your nationality receives, and the dates guide the insurance that comes with it.

If you are applying for family members, each traveller - children included - gets their own application and their own visa, linked to their own passport.

Step 3 - the photo, done properly

More applications stall on the photo than on any other single item. Plain light background, face straight to the camera, nothing covering the face, no heavy shadows, no glasses glare. A phone photo against a white wall, taken in daylight, passes far more often than a scanned studio print with a grey background. Our specialists check the photo before submission, because fixing it afterwards costs days.

Steps 4 to 6 - review, submission and the decision

Before anything is paid, you review the complete application and your total in writing: the official fee, which includes the mandatory insurance, plus the service fee - nothing appears later. On submission you receive your reference, and from that moment the application is visible on the tracking page through every stage: received, document check, submitted to the authority, with the authority, decision, eVisa ready.

When the decision lands, the eVisa arrives electronically. Print a copy for the border and keep the file on your phone. Then check three things on the issued document itself - your name, your passport number and the validity dates - because those, not any confirmation email, are what the border officer reads.

Common questions

How long does the whole application take to complete?

The form itself takes a few minutes when your documents are beside you. Most delays come from re-doing photos and correcting passport details - both are avoidable with ten minutes of preparation.

Do I need hotel or flight bookings to apply?

No. Neither is required for the tourist eVisa application. Book freely once the visa is issued.

What should I check when the eVisa arrives?

Your name, passport number and the validity dates on the issued document itself. That document - not the confirmation email - is what the border officer reads.
