Saudi Business Visit Visa: Invitations, Documents and How Processing Works
Business visit visas are invitation-led: a Saudi company starts the process, and your documents follow. What the invitation must contain and what to prepare on your side.
- A Saudi company starts the process with an official invitation in your name
- Your passport details on the invitation must match your application exactly
- Meetings and conferences yes - hands-on employment needs a work visa
- Multiple-entry versions (6-12 months) are decided at the invitation stage
It starts with the invitation
Unlike the tourist eVisa, a business visit visa begins with the Saudi side. The company inviting you issues an official invitation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs / chamber of commerce system, approved in your name, with your passport details, your role, and the purpose and dates of the visit. Without that approved invitation there is nothing to apply against.
Ask your host company to send you the invitation number and a copy before you start your side - mismatched names or passport numbers between the invitation and your application are the most common cause of delay on this route.
Your document pack
With the invitation approved, your side of the file is conventional: passport with six months of validity, a white-background photo, and a support letter from your own employer confirming your role, the purpose of the trip and that your employment continues. Companies House or trade licence documents for your employer can be requested depending on the case.
The business visit visa permits meetings, negotiations, training and conferences. It does not permit hands-on employment in Saudi Arabia - that is what work visas and iqamas are for, and working on a visit visa is a compliance breach for you and the host company.
- Approved Saudi invitation, in your exact passport name
- Passport valid 6+ months, white-background photo
- Employer support letter: role, purpose, dates
- Your company's registration documents, if requested
Single or multiple entry
Business visit visas are issued as single-entry for a specific trip or multiple-entry - commonly six or twelve months - for people who travel repeatedly. If your work with the Saudi company is ongoing, say so at the invitation stage: the multiple-entry version is decided then, not after the single-entry visa is used.
How long the route takes
The invitation approval on the Saudi side is the variable part - days in a well-organised company, longer when chamber attestations queue. Once the invitation is approved and your documents are clean, the application itself moves at the same pace as other visit visas. Companies running a first invitation for a new partner should start three to four weeks before the intended travel date.
At the border and in the Kingdom
Carry the invitation copy and your employer's letter with your passport - officers can ask what brings you, and the paper answers it. Your visit visa covers your meetings across the Kingdom, so internal travel between Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province needs no extra permission.
If the relationship deepens into regular presence, that is the point to discuss work permits and iqamas with the host company - the visit visa is a bridge, not a residence.
Common questions
Can I attend a trade fair or conference on this visa?
Yes - conferences, exhibitions and training are core business-visit purposes. Keep your event registration with your invitation papers.
Can the Saudi company apply for my whole team?
Each traveller needs an invitation in their own name, but a company can issue them as a batch for the same visit. Names and passport numbers must be exact on each one.
Is a business visit visa convertible to a work visa inside Saudi Arabia?
Generally no - work visas are processed from outside the Kingdom through the employer. Treat the visit as scouting and meetings, and let the work route run its own course.
