Saudi eVisa Validity: The 1-Year, 90-Day and 180-Day Rules, Explained
Your eVisa is valid for a year - but that does not mean a year inside Saudi Arabia. How validity, the 90-day stay and the 180-day yearly ceiling fit together, and how not to overstay by accident.
- Validity is one year from issue - that is your window to enter, not a year inside the Kingdom
- Each stay is up to 90 days, and stays across the year add up to a 180-day maximum
- The tourist eVisa stay cannot be extended from inside Saudi Arabia
- Some nationalities receive a single-entry 30-day version instead - it is printed on the visa
Validity and stay are two different clocks
The date printed on your eVisa starts a one-year validity window: the period during which you may enter Saudi Arabia. It is not a one-year permission to be in the country. Each time you enter, a second clock starts - your stay - and on the standard tourist eVisa a single stay can last up to 90 days.
When the year ends, the visa ends, wherever you are in a stay. When a stay ends, you leave - even if the visa still has months of validity left.
The 180-day ceiling across the year
Across the whole validity year, your stays add up to a maximum of 180 days in total. Three full 90-day stays are therefore impossible: two use 180 days exactly. Travellers who split their year between Saudi Arabia and home rarely notice the ceiling; long-stay visitors - remote workers, people with family in the Kingdom, Umrah travellers returning often - should count their days the way the authorities do, cumulatively.
Counting days without mistakes
Your entry day counts as day one. Keep your own tally from entry and exit stamps or the digital record of your crossings, and plan to leave a margin: flights get cancelled, and 'I thought I had two more days' is not an argument that works at the border. If you are travelling on the single-entry version issued to some nationalities, your stay limit is 30 days instead - it is printed on the visa itself, so read what you were actually issued.
Can a stay be extended?
No - the tourist eVisa stay cannot be extended from inside Saudi Arabia. When your 90 days (or your 180 for the year) run out, the only route is out. Leaving and re-entering starts a new stay while the visa remains valid, but it does not reset the yearly ceiling, and border officers can and do look at patterns. Family visit visas are different - those can be extended by the host through official channels.
What an overstay costs
Overstaying is charged per day, and the bill is only the beginning: an overstay record follows you into every future application. If your plans change mid-trip - illness, a family matter, a cancelled flight - contact us or the authorities before your stay expires, not after. Handled early, most situations have a lawful answer.
Common questions
My visa is valid for a year. Can I stay the whole year?
No. Validity is the window in which you may enter. Each stay is limited to 90 days, and your stays across the year may not exceed 180 days in total.
Does leaving and re-entering reset my 90 days?
A new entry starts a new stay of up to 90 days while your visa remains valid - but the 180-day yearly total keeps counting, and repeated border runs attract attention.
What happens if I overstay by a few days?
Overstays are fined per day and recorded against you, which can affect future applications. If something goes wrong mid-trip, contact us before your stay expires - most situations have a lawful answer when handled early.
