Saudi Visa for Egyptian Citizens: Every Route, Plainly Explained
Egypt is not on the Saudi eVisa list, yet Egyptians form one of the largest communities in the Kingdom. The residency route, family visits, the used-visa route and Umrah - what fits your case.
- Egypt is not on the 72-country Saudi eVisa list
- Egyptians resident in the Gulf qualify for the eVisa through residency
- The profession condition for GCC residents was abolished
- Family visits run on an invitation your host obtains inside Saudi Arabia
Where Egypt stands
An Egyptian passport alone does not qualify for the Saudi tourist eVisa; Egypt is not on the 72-country list. That single fact explains most of the confusion - and most of the scams. Egyptians nevertheless travel to Saudi Arabia in huge numbers, through the four routes below.
Route 1: Gulf residency
Egyptians living in the UAE or elsewhere in the Gulf hold the strongest card: GCC residency opens the eVisa regardless of passport. Six months on the passport, three months on the residency, and no profession test - it was abolished. The result is the standard one-year, multiple-entry tourist eVisa, equally good for a Cairo-Riyadh family run, a Jeddah weekend or Umrah outside Hajj season.
Route 2: family and personal visits
With relatives or close friends in the Kingdom, the sponsored visit visa is the workhorse of Egypt-Saudi travel. Your host in Saudi Arabia secures the approved invitation first; your application follows it. It suits longer stays than tourism and is the route most family visits have always used - applied for and approved before anyone boards a plane.
Routes 3 and 4: the used-visa door and Umrah
A valid US, UK or Schengen visit visa that has been used at least once puts you in line for assessment for a visa on arrival - bring the passport carrying the visa and its entry stamps, and accept that the decision is the border officer's.
For Umrah, Egyptian pilgrims travel through the dedicated Umrah system and approved organisers, with Nusuk managing permits and slots. Employment, as everywhere, is a separate employer-led channel - a job offer leads to a work visa processed by the company, never a product sold to the worker.
Common questions
Can Egyptians apply for the Saudi eVisa?
Not on the passport alone. Egyptians qualify through GCC residency, through a used US, UK or Schengen visa on arrival, through a sponsored family or personal visit visa, or through the Umrah system.
I work in the UAE. Can I do Umrah on the eVisa?
Yes. Apply through the GCC-resident route; the tourist eVisa covers Umrah outside the Hajj season, with slots booked in the Nusuk app.
How do I visit my son who works in Riyadh?
On a family visit visa sponsored by your son from inside Saudi Arabia - he secures the invitation first, then your application follows.
