The Saudi Visa Sponsor, Explained: Who They Are and What They Do
Sponsored visit visas confuse everyone because the main actor is not you - it is your host. What a sponsor is, what they issue, and what you still have to do.
- A sponsor is a citizen, resident or company inside Saudi Arabia who hosts your visit
- The sponsor obtains an approved invitation with a reference your application attaches to
- Family visits need relationship proof - birth or marriage certificates
- Details on the invitation and your passport must match exactly
Why sponsorship exists
Some Saudi visas are granted because of who is waiting for you in the Kingdom rather than where you come from. Family visits, personal visits and business visits all run on sponsorship: a person or organisation inside Saudi Arabia vouches for the visit, states its purpose, and effectively hosts it. The tourist eVisa needs no sponsor; the sponsored routes exist for travellers and purposes the eVisa does not cover.
Who can be a sponsor
For a family visit, the sponsor is your relative - a Saudi citizen, or a resident holding a valid iqama - inviting their family members. For a personal visit, a citizen can invite a friend. For business, the sponsor is the Saudi company you are visiting, acting through its registered channels. In every case the sponsor must be inside the Kingdom and in good standing; a friend on a visit visa of their own cannot sponsor you.
What the sponsor actually does
The sponsor files the request through the official platform - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa system for citizens and companies, Absher for residents - declaring who is coming, the relationship, and the purpose. What comes back is an approved invitation, carrying a reference (often called the MOFA or visa number) that your application then attaches to. Without that approved invitation there is nothing to apply against; it is the foundation document of the whole route.
What you, the guest, still do
Your side is documents and accuracy: passport with six months or more to run, photographs to the standard, proof of the relationship for family visits (birth or marriage certificates, translated if they are not in Arabic or English), and an application whose details match the invitation character for character. A mismatch between the invitation and your passport is the sponsored route's version of the eVisa's photo problem - the most common, and the most avoidable, cause of delay.
How we fit in
We work on the guest's side of the counter: checking the invitation your sponsor obtained, assembling your documents against it, filing the application and tracking it to the decision. If your sponsor is unsure how to start their side, message us - we can talk them through what to request and where, in plain steps, before anyone pays anything. The sponsorship itself can only come from inside the Kingdom; everything after it is paperwork, and paperwork is our trade.
Common questions
Can my friend in Saudi Arabia sponsor me?
If they are a Saudi citizen, yes - citizens can issue personal visit invitations. A friend who is themselves on a visit visa cannot sponsor anyone.
My sponsor has the invitation. What do I send you?
The invitation reference, your passport, a compliant photo, and relationship documents for family visits. We check the invitation against your passport before filing - mismatches are the main cause of delay.
Does the sponsor pay for my visa?
The sponsor's part is the invitation, which is theirs to arrange. The application fees on your side are confirmed in writing before you pay anything, as with every route on this site.
